———NOTE——
Only read this if you’re actually interested. I know I’m not some “music expert”, but I’m still interested, and presently concerned about the music industry.
————————-
As seen above, new decades generally attract new types of music. As far as I’m concerned, the world’s taste in music has been deteriorating since the early 90s (or even since the late 80s). So naturally, I’m pretty concerned for the Teens, 10’s, or whatever you want to call this new set of years.
Last decade saw mass popularity surrounding the Rap and Hip Hop genres, and then, later, came a vast array of electronic music (which in contrast with the aforementioned genres, I was pretty happy with!).
As time wears on and on, as was seen in the Naughties (00’s), music becomes more and more plagiarised. Such examples of this are Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” (ripping off Joe Satriani’s song, “If I Could Fly”), and Rogue Trader’s “Voodoo Child” (ripping off Elvis Costello’s song, “Pump It Up”).
I guess my main concern is that “Rip-off-ica” may actually become a genre of it’s own. Not Parody, as the artist Wierd Al Yankovic has done, but actually serious attempts to claim music as their own using samples of other songs. Further than this, I’m concerned that this may be the genre that defines the decade.
At the moment, that’s my best prediction for any sort of musical trend that may appear in the Teens, however an advancement on the various forms of Electronica is also on the cards…
